It looks like At Earth's End Superman, actually, so great job recapturing the 90s in comics!

Including the hidden feet. LOVE it!

How he just needs some big chunky shoulder armor.

And more pouches. ;)

(Who was the artist who spoofed Liefeld by drawing Cable--or was it Bishop--with so much schmatte that his shoulder armor and/or backpack pouches even included a kitchen sink?)

Not sure, but when I was growing up I Liefeld was my favorite artist by far.

Oh, I know; at his best Liefeld did and does such *gorgeous* stuff! Clean-lined, bold and strong; you can't look away.

My two favorites back when I was growing up were Frank Frazetta and Esteban Maroto; I read a lot of the Creepy and Eerie b&w horror comics, and Maroto was the one artist there who was a positive pleasure to look at. And then Barry (Windsor) Smith came along, and I had a third'un.

I don't mind being 55, but I do sometimes wish I'd been born later, just so I could completely absorb and love both anime and modern cartoons rather than being slightly distracted by the (to me) oddity of their style.

It's not that I miss the old cartoons; Flintstones and Spiderman and the Herculoids and all were AWFUL, and I even knew it at the time. And my favorite superhero print-comics style didn't mostly start until the '80s (I fell for Byrne and Grell, and subsequently for Liefeld, Jim Lee, Ed Benes--yes, I DO like my comics characters to be attractive, by and large).

But there's an entire world of great anime and animated Batman and others that I can't quite *feel*. I enjoy 'em in small doses--my nephew's great at picking things like Hellsing and Ghibli movies for me--but I can't quite lose my suspension of disbelief because of the art styles. It's not so much the BigEyesSmallMouth thing as the sudden bursts of silly expressions and the clothes/armor/weapons.

I mean, I know Marvel/DC spandex and superheroines in high heels wouldn't really work either, but since I grew up on 'em, I don't find them as jarring as warrior girlies with braids long enough that their enemies could just grab one from six feet away and break her neck, or shoulder armor so huge you couldn't turn your head, or weapons so blade-heavy that you'd break your wrist if you could lift them at all. I KNOW it's no more unrealistic than a lot of what I grew up on; it's just that I'm too old to learn to ignore it.

Still, it's fun to keep trying. ;)

There are some pretty good comic based shows out there right now, Ultimate Spider-Man is one I'm watching now.
I think it's a good time to be a fan because the quality is so much higher than in the past.
